Please introduce yourself and where you work.

My name is Nate Stockard, and I am the President of Blue Atlas Marketing based in Houston, TX (League City).

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?

SEO has changed based on Google algorithm updates. We all chase Google, so we have to watch what they do. The biggest changes in the last 10 years is the need to be legitimate with your SEO approach. We used to game the system, keyword stuff, overly link, etc., and Google has made changes to account for the tricks. Now SEO is based on content marketing, and content marketing must utilize solid, resourceful content that users want to read/view/use.
SEO now relies on social signals, which wasn’t a big deal 10 years ago (or even 5). Now the search engines want to know people are talking about you in order to build credibility!

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?

I began building websites 21 years ago. As the world of advertising and marketing changed, so did I. The website is now the central hub, but digital marketing/SEO is the tactic to make the website work. SEO was my first venture into digital marketing, because ranking in the search engines became obvious to our clients.

What are the services you provide to your clients?

We are a full-service agency with a primary focus on online marketing. Our most popular services are website development and digital marketing.

What strategy according to you will prevail in 2017 for SEO?

I think it comes down to a content marketing approach with quick, easy-to-consume content. As the world gets more mobile and less patient, we have to provide exactly what a prospect wants, but only as much as they want, and at the right time. SEO will have to speed up. We can no longer say it is a “6 to 12-month process.” Clients will need quicker results.

What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?

Get ready to write, create content, and be creative. Digital Marketing requires a holistic approach of many skills. Get your feet wet in a lot of areas, because you will pull from the skills at one time or another.
