July 17, 2023 | Interview

Please introduce yourself and where you work.

Richelle Anderson owner at Lighthouse Web Design & Marketing. I have worked in the online marketing and web design world since 1997 and opened my agency in 2007.

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?

SEO has changed significantly over the last 10 years. Search engines have realized their searchers are their customers and have promised to up the quality of search queries. This change has made the demand of SEO more challenging for businesses. With so much competition that is out there, the challenge lies in standing out and providing the quality content the search engines are looking for and serving their customer/client base.

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?

In 1997, I sold banner and email ads on a gaming network. It stemmed off from here in learning website design and the methods companies could use the web to promote their business.

What are the services you provide to your clients?

We are a web design company but want our clients to be successful. Once the website is built we back it up by providing search optimization, social media consulting/management, and online marketing strategy.
We don’t just want to build websites, we want our clients to have success with them.

What strategy according to you will prevail in 2018 for SEO?

Quality, quality, quality! Companies will continue to see the value in great content. Not only articles and such but the main content they use on service pages, product descriptions, etc. With changes on social the website is the one thing they can control and see companies looking to their website more as the landing page for social media promotions. It is how it should be
The other challenge lies with companies figuring out the secret sauce of their customers and clients telling the story for them. Customer and client reviews, as well as mentions will be a priority this year.
Business to business companies will realize their clunky desktop friendly websites won’t cut it after the May update by Google. Many do not have mobile-friendly websites or they are slow to load on mobile devices. We see a big mix up in the B2B rankings after the update.

What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?

Don’t get sucked in to the new flashy methods. Be aware of them and test things out before you go all in. At the end of the day, digital marketing, like any other method is about knowing who the target is, filling their needs, and providing a great service to them so they will want to shout it from the rooftops.
