Please introduce yourself and where you work.


My name is Venkatesh C.R., and I am the M.D. and CEO of Dot Com Infoway (DCI). I have also founded and currently head platforms such as Galatta Media and ADATHA. I have also co-founded Magzter Inc, a digital magazine stand. I am also a member of the Indian Angel Network who frequently invests into select startups.

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years?


SEO has changed in a major way in the last decade. Earlier, SEO meant only the keywords and content held little importance. Earlier, Google was still struggling to keep black-hat and spam-based link-building practices at bay. But the story is different now. Google is much smarter now and only favours content that is semantic, and provides quality content. For SEO agencies, the ball game is different. The focus now is on sourcing high quality, grammatically correct content on a webpage to make it rank higher on Google.

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?


I have always been interested in technology. In fact, I launched my first technology company in mid-nineties, a time where most of the country was unaware of the internet. Including SEO in our quiver of services was a logical progression, as our clients, for whom we developed web applications, wanted their web pages to rank higher on Google searches.

What are the services you provide to your clients?


DCI offers a host of services to its customers. From web and mobile application development to digital marketing including SEO and social media marketing, we offer end-to-end IT services to our clients.

What strategy according to you will prevail in 2017 for SEO?


Excellent and informative content with fewer, yet powerful keywords will rule the roost in 2017 as far as SEO is concerned. Strategic link-building is still relevant and pays good rewards if implemented with care. Additionally, YouTube SEO has a lot of potentials.

What would your advice be to people who are looking to take up digital marketing as a career choice?


I see digital marketing space as an amalgamation of creativity and technology. For those who are eying to be a part of this industry, must ensure that they have a flair for both, creativity and technology. It is the power of imagination that shapes up the technology. Hence, creativity will always precede technology. A digital agency has to compete with unending streams of highly engaging content across all digital platforms and has to continually forage for tools and words that could seize the audience’s attention. While some see it as a challenge, some find it alluring; your decision to make a career in the industry would depend on how you see it.
