How Blogging Can Increase Your Followers On Social Media

July 7, 2023 | Digital Marketing

On social media, it’s a race to get the most followers. But did you know you can get more social media followers by blogging? Here’s how to expand your reach.

Are your stellar photographs and quippy captions not getting you the number of followers on social media you were hoping for?

While this is certainly discouraging, it’s important to keep in mind how vast the world of social media really is. Instagram, for example, sees over 700 million users every month. This sets it just a little behind Facebook, which has over 1 billion users.

With so many users, how in the World do you make your account stand out? More importantly why do you need followers mentioning and sharing your stuff?

Well, social mentions are much more than just a feel good pat on the shoulder. Having your brand mentioned by the right people carries a LOT of weight with your audience as well as Google.

Google’s Gary Illyes, sums it up pretty simply in a recent interview with Barry Schwarts from Search Engine Watch in a discussion about ranking content for keywords;

Basically, if you publish high quality content that is highly cited on the internet – and I’m not talking about just links, but also mentions on social networks and people talking about your branding, crap like that.

So, if you want to gain more social media followers and improve your rankings, you need to start thinking outside the box. Cute photos and witty captions aren’t enough to help your accounts gain the attention they deserve.

So where should you turn to expand your following?

Blogging can actually be an excellent way to help grow your followers.

And you’re probably thinking- “If I want to make my social media bigger, shouldn’t I be working on my social media accounts?”

Of course, I’m not suggesting you completely neglect your social media accounts. What I am suggesting, however, is that you take a more holistic approach to your marketing efforts.

Remember, all of your marketing efforts should intertwine and work to support one another. If one is neglected, the whole campaign is at risk of failing.

But just exactly how do you step up your blogging game to attract more social media followers?

Continue reading this post to find out!

1.Visit Other Blogs

Blogging, just like social media, is a community activity.

And sharing is a key element that helps this community grow.

Think of some of the popular social media accounts you follow. I’d be willing to bet there’s a good handful in there that you started following because another account you love gave them a shout out or reposted some of their work and tagged them in it.

This “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” is a mentality that you need to have in the blogging world to succeed.

The more you share other people’s blog posts and interact on their blogs in the comments section, the more they’ll do the same for you.

The more sharing that goes on, the bigger the audience you get. And once people notice you have a cool blog that gets a lot of interaction and shares, the more likely they are to go and check to see if you have a social media account!

2.Share Your Work

Of course, you don’t want to be so busy sharing other people’s work that you forget to share your own.

Every time you create a blog post, don’t forget to share it on your own social media site.

If you share something from your blog on your social media that is captivating or noteworthy, your followers are likely to share this with their own followers.

If their followers find your post interesting, they will likely become your new followers. This can lead to new blog followers as well as new business.

3.Add a Share Button

Every time you write a blog post, you’re creating content that people can share on social media.

Ok, it’s probably easy for you to remember to share your killer blog post to social media. After all, it’s your business, so you’re constantly looking for ways to strut your own stuff.

But no matter how great your blog post is, don’t think for a second that your readers will take the time to share it if the process is somehow complicated.

Luckily, when you add share buttons, the process is insanely easy. Blogger and WordPress both have share buttons that provide friendly, constant reminders that your blog posts can be shared on social media. This will also help your readers remember that you too have a social media presence that you want them to check out.

4.Call to Action

Sometimes the best way to get what you want is to simply ask for it.

Don’t be afraid to make your call-to-action at the end of your blog post an invitation to check out your social media account.

Not every blog post has to end with a call-to-action to check out your website or to check out your product line. Call-to-actions focused on garnering new social media followers are just as productive.

And if you really want to entice your readers to start following you, offer them some sort of reason, such as a contest or an incentive, for when they do.

5.Establish Yourself as an Authority

When you hear the phrase, “according to experts,” you tend to listen a little more closely, right?

Of course! Because we always trust the opinion of an expert far more than the opinion some Joe Shmoe who just likes to hear himself talk.

To make sure you don’t get a reputation as that guy, you need to make sure you are showcasing yourself as an expert authority in your arena.

For example, did you know that in recent study conducted by the Content Marketing Institute revealed that over 60% of business marketers greatest challenge in 2016 was producing engaging content?

Likewise, HubSpot conducted a study that clearly illustrated Companies that write blog posts get more traffic. Specifically, companies that post to their blogs regularly get on average:

  1. 55% more visitors
  2. 97% more inbound links
  3. 434% more indexed pages

When you are creating blog posts that contain useful, relevant information, your readers are a lot more likely to listen when you suggest to them to “follow your Twitter or Facebook for even more tips.”

6.Guest Posts

Guest posts are a great way to further your status as an industry expert.

Once you’ve started to build a relationship with other bloggers, try to strike up a working relationship with one or more of them. For instance, you can make an exchange where you agree to showcase each other once a month through guest posts.

If you share their guest post through social media, they will likely do the same in return. This can be a great way to establish your industry expertise as well as gain new social media followers.
