Analysing websites, optimising content, consultancy and training have now become his monthly occupation.

Please tell us about yourself, where you work and your role at your company.

I am Nathan Veenstra, founder and owner of Letterzaken, SEO Copywriter turned SEO Specialist.

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?

When I started my agency, I wanted to be the best SEO Copywriter. I did not have any SEO knowledge, so even before I started Letterzaken, I took an SEO copywriting training and while working for clients, I started to get more and more interested in SEO more than in copywriting. So I started to dig into that by doing courses and trainings and doing research and reading up online.

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years? And, how do you think year 2019 will shape up for SEO industry?

Although I haven’t worked in this business for 10 years yet now, I do have a good sense of how it has changed. I see that it has become more natural and holistic and more about quality and less about actual keywords on a page. Although in some cases, old spammy tactics still do work, as much as we’d like them not to work.

What are the services you provide to your clients and what do you think makes your business stand out among your competitors?

We still offer SEO copywriting and work on unique content for each client, with their own tone of voice and focus on converting the website visitors. The services we focus on though is optimising websites technically and content wise as well as extensive website audits, consultancy and trainings. Pretty much the full package, focused on SEO and (some) CRO.

Everybody knows what you have achieved, I would like to talk about your failure stories and how they impacted your professional life. (As we know Rome was not built in a day)

Hahaha. Good call. Well I know I have been very hesitant to stay in touch with my clients and you know people want to stay updated. It has sometimes kept me awake as I didn’t dare to think of how they would think of me for not being in touch enough.
Another thing I wish I’d known when I started is how to analyse what a client really needs. Most of them only know they want better positions in Google, but have no clue for what keywords as well as how it all works. We need to help them in that process, and for that it takes some analysing of what they know, what has been done before and what effort it has to be put in.
That last thing, I think, is what you need to be quite experienced for. It takes seniority to understand a client’s needs and guide them to their best options.
