Please tell us about yourself, where you work and your role at your company.

I am Davu Siva who has an eagle eye for the internet trends, a knack for research, and hunger to always learn and be up-to-date. I work at GeeksChip where I am given the opportunity to explore and experiment with several strategies which literally expanded my Digital Marketing knowledge. Well, my role at GeeksChip is Digital Marketing Team Head where I have to spearhead a team of 12 members and ensure the work quality & productivity.

How did you get introduced to digital marketing, more specifically SEO?

Back in 2014 when I first got my hands on the computer, I wondered how does a particular business result in the search engine for a term I have searched. Honestly, I even thought that those companies might have to pay some bucks for the search engine to place them in the first place. I was naive then. But as they say, “curiosity is the beginning point of growth” I researched day and night to know how a business or website land up in the first page of any Search Engine results and eventually, I intruded into the world of SEO and there is no turn around yet.

How do you think SEO has changed over the last 10 years? And, how do you think year 2019 will shape up for SEO industry?

Well, the search landscape has come a long way. During its infancy, SEO is all about stuffing the keywords, tweaking a little bit of your back-end code, and domain age. But the search engines did not stop evolving. Right from the rise of content to the slow death of keywords, we have come across many other factors such as mobile optimization, backlinks, anchor texts, knowledge graph, local SEO, and many more. Today, in 2019, the quantity and quality of backlinks matters! It is time to realize that Google isn’t the only search engine in the store and you need to brace yourself for the revolution of Artificial Intelligence. The search process has transformed from the manual process to voice search such as Google Assistance, Alexa, Siri.

Since we are discussing the revolution of AI, I would like to know how GeeksChip is planning to deal with this transformation?

Okay! That was a good question. GeeksChip is completely prepared for this transformation and as a matter of fact, we have already integrated artificial intelligence in our line of work. We have introduced an AI chatbot as our real-time customer support and it is working human-like. These bots are available all round the clock which helped us in reducing the customers’ waiting time and increase the engagement overall. Along with this, we are going ahead with AI-based email marketing, blog recommendations, and marketing.

What are the services you provide to your clients and what do you think makes your business stand out among your competitors?

Everybody knows what you have achieved, I would like to talk about your failure stories and how they impacted your professional life.(As we know Rome was not built in a day)

Back when I started working on GeeksChip, I have got rankings for my targeted keywords immediately and I was super happy. On one bright Sunday, we have realized that all our rankings were gone. Poof! Just like that. Although I was able to generate business even without rankings, that’s not enough. To sustain as a leading digital marketing agency, we need to be in the rankings because numbers rule the world. I have even implemented black-hat SEO tactics and strategies, but everything went in vain. At that point, Brian Dean and Rand Fishkin have helped a lot in making me realize the power of content marketing and how you can play with the search engine just with the content. This is probably my only downfall during my employment and this has taught me that hardship is common in all stages of life and all it takes to overcome is curiosity and determination. Post that event, I am bombarded with many challenges but it did not bother much since that event has given me the strength to tackle anything ahead.

What is your advice for those who are just starting out in SEO?

If you just started walking into the field of Search Engine Optimization(SEO), you need to brace yourself that there is no magical way to rank your website in the #1 place for a specific keyword. It takes consistent time, efforts, and zeal to learn and be up-to-date. For me, SEO makes demands and content marketing fulfils those demands. I believe both have to go hand-in-hand because the sole reason people approach a search engine is to get the information. End-users want the information that helps them in making decisions and I do not think any other approach is immaculate than content marketing. So, focus more on it. You will get the results.
